About Festival
Yaosang Festival is one the important festival of Manipur state of India. Yaoshang festival is also called ‘festival of colors’ or it is also known as “DOL JATRA”.

This festival is celebrated for five days and young boys and girls take active part in this festival. On this day bamboo huts, ‘Yaosangs’, are constructed on the roadside and Brahmin place the the idol of Chaitanya in huts.People worshipped and chanted Kirtans and recitations from the holy books .The idol is removed from the hut and the hut is set on fire.When hut is burning the people is shouts of ‘Hari-Bola’ and ‘He Hari’ .After that the ash is collected and used to mark the foreheads of the worshippers and the entrance of the houses. Main highlight of the festival is the Thabal Chongba dance. Thabal Chongba is a Manipuri folk dance where boys and girls form a circle and hold hands and sing and dance.

During the Yaoshang festival the people of Manipur joyously apply natural powder colors called holi or ‘gulal’ on each other.
