About Festival
Pana Sankranti or the Chhatua Sankranti is a popular festival of Orissa. On the day of Pana Sankranti Festival a small pot that have a hole at bottom filled with ‘pana’ or sweet drink is hung on a basil (Tulsi) plant. The water which falls from the pot represents rain. Thus the Samkranti marks the commencement of rainy season and of the cultivation cycle.People of Orissa consume the flour of horse gram (chhatua) after offering it to the basil plant.
