About Festival
Kashmir is believed to have been the abode of Yakshas in ancient times. On the festival day people of Kashmir “khichri” is prepared and the “Yakshas” are invited to have it. People believed that in the night the yaksha comes and tastes the Khichri served neatly in the attic along with a fish.

“Aamavasya” day is dedicated to Kuvera, its mean avatar of Lord Shiva. Kuvera is the guardian God of celestial treasure. People made the khichri with the help of rice , moong and ghee.
