About Festival
Bhojali, also known as Bhujalia, is an important festival celebrated in Chhattisgarh.About a week before the actual Bhojali day, i.e. on the day of Nagpanchami, gram, wheat, rice or kondo seeds are sown in earthen pots and manured to grow into green shoots . People give the watered everyday of these seed with a view to having the ensuing crop in abundance. In Malwa the sprouting of the seeds is called Jawara and in Bundelkhand it is called Bhujaria. In some places, leaf cups called ‘churkus’ are used instead of the pots. Manure is put in the pot and watered daily .These seedlings are referred as Bhojali.

On the day of Bhojali , meals are held in every town, village and locality.Women holding the Bhojali in their hands or keeping the earthen pots containing the seedlings to the river or tank. On the way to the river, they sing ceremonial songs, which are mostly in praise of river Ganges.While performing this ritual the women sing songs, which refer to Bhojali as a deity.
